(Allium schoenoprasum) – Chives

Chives are low maintenance, easy to grow perennial herb, grown for their onion-scented tasting leaves. They produce beautiful pink flowers in summer which can be eaten in salads, these flowers also attract bees and butterflies.

Cultivation

Plant in a sunny, well-drained spot in good soil, a very attractive edging plant along paths, or in containers.

In autumn, trim away dead foliage.

In the Kitchen

Very useful in soups, salads and added to mashed potatoes. Flowers can be used as a garnish
