Acanthus, commonly known as bear’s breeches, is a clump-forming perennial that is grown for its attractive foliage and for its architecturally bold creamy white flower spikes with red-to-purple markings. It is a tall growing plant and for this reason it looks well in areas close to hedges, the backs of borders, and woodland.
