Shrubs Create the skeleton of a garden border planting scheme, they add height, depth, and seasonal interest, many are evergreen which means they keep their leaves all winter while others are deciduous which means they lose their leaves in Autumn, this can add a whole new dimension to the planting scheme when it takes on a fiery statement of orange, reds and yellows. Try and place taller shrubs to the back and then place mid-sized ones in the centre, with the smaller ones at the front to create impact, then accessorize between them with Perennial or Cottage garden plants to add that extra umph! Some shrubs need acidic soil. This is one with a high peat content in it. While others are happy in whatever life sends their way, they are easy to grow and give years of service.
